It looks like the Beetle was sad in the first pic and happy in the other. This VW ad can be interpreted from the perspective that simplicity is also an option that is not to be put aside. That's what I think of the photo.

This VW advertisement can let people understand that even if you have a great car; it can still run into problems. It is advisable to maintain your car every now and then for us to avoid running into problems in the future. Who knows, maybe when you want to sell you car in condition can bring you a lot of money.

Imagine the two pictures as before (lower photo) and after (above photo). For me, the photo shows how clever we are nowadays to refurbish and bring a good, old car into life again. =)

Good point, Simon! What’s important is that, they were able to justify the reason for its reputation and classic look. It is still the Beetle that is well-loved (The People’s car). Anyway, Volkswagen’s Beetle is the most-manufactured and longest-running car of a distinct design platform.
